How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account yourself from Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Delete account.

We ask you to confirm twice, and the second step asks you to type the word DELETE. That is deliberate: deletion cannot be undone once it runs, so it should be hard to trigger by accident.

Nothing is deleted straight away. Your request is scheduled for 7 days later, and until then your account keeps working normally. Your review links stay live and your clients can carry on commenting and approving.

During those 7 days a notice appears at the bottom of Settings showing the date, with a Keep my account button. Click it and the request is canceled and nothing is lost.

After 7 days everything goes: your profile and sign in details, every file you uploaded, every review request you created, and the comments, annotations and approval decisions your clients left on them. Anyone still holding one of your review links will find it no longer works.

Your files are removed from every place we keep them, including the backup copies we hold of archived files. Nothing about your files is kept once the deletion runs.

One thing we would rather be straight about: we keep dated snapshots of our database for disaster recovery, and we do not delete old snapshots. A snapshot taken before you deleted your account still contains your name and email inside it. Those snapshots are never used to serve the site, only to rebuild it if something goes badly wrong, and we keep a record of every deletion so that if we ever did rebuild from one, your account is removed again straight away as part of that process.

If you signed up with Google or Microsoft, deleting your account here does not remove File Approved from that provider. You can do that in your Google or Microsoft account settings under third party access.

Signing in again afterwards with the same email address creates a brand new, empty account. It does not bring the old one back.

If you have a Pro subscription, cancel it in the billing portal before you delete, so you are not charged again while the grace period runs.
